| About Me: | I grew up as a motor head working on friends cars before I got my first one. Back then low riders was the thing and I had a 67 Chevy Impala, I still have a passion for them but I have a need for speed deep down inside. After 9 years in the Marine Corps, 10 years of Law enforcement work and now working in the construction field. I found time again to pursue one of my long time passion.
I had just left my last Police Department in 97, while going back to finish my degree. I was working at a Ford dealership on the side. I saw these hot lil sport sedans. I thought the dealership had swoop them up to boost sales, but no. Ford extended its line of SVT's to the Contour. It was built to cut into the growing BMW and Japenese sport sedan market. On paper Ford got it right, The Contour SVT out preformed the BMW 3 series and all others by a long shot and cost 7-10k less. The only draw back was it only came in a 6 speed manual.
Husbands would come in and drool over it and the wifes' would agree until they saw it was only a 6 speed. Ford stayed true to the performace side of the house and stay with the 5 speed, but it cost the Contour SVT in unit sales. The life span of this line was a short 3 years with the early 98's coming out in spring of 97. The one I have is a original 98 (EO) and the mid 98's are classified as (E1's) the 99's came with 5 extra horses under the hood and newer rim style. Mod parts are very hard to find due to the short time this line was in production. So many owers have had to solicit body shop Companys to make mods.
The Contour SVT comes with a full bodykit: front lip, sideskirts, and lower rear skirt, but items like carbon fiber hoods, eyelids, splitters, turbo's and like had to be hand made proto types first then sold manly in group buys by ContourSVT owners. So if you get the rare chance to see one of these beast on the street, don't take it lightly. There were only a few thousands made each year. Mine is 1295 out 6k that were made in 1998. If you look at my photos you will see it from a stock stage to what it has become today. The American Dream, as I call it was selected by Domestic Driver Magazine as one of its "Reader Rides" featured in the May/June 08 issue. The American Dream won first prize at Island cruiser Father day car show in a class it was not even enter in "Best Import" Talk about shocked, A domestic car wins best import!
