History Of The Car
I bought this car off eBay in March of 2005 for $920. It ran for 3 weeks and then the engine blew up. I totally rebuilt the engine from the bare block up and it has been running great for just about a year now.
Exterior
The car was originally just a plain black RS. I really liked the two-toned black and gold Z28 Camaro's that were made so I decided to go with that paint scheme. The car was painted by my father. My brother and myself did all of the bodywork to it. The car was surprisingly straight with no rust so it wasn't bad to do at all.
The car had some ugly American Racing wheels on it and again...I liked a certain Z28 factory aluminum wheel so I bought a set at the junkyard, had them sand-blasted, and they were also repainted by my dad. The wheels were a real bitch to mask off, took about an hour per wheel, but they came out excellent!
Interior
The car came stock with an ugly grey interior with highback seats. I work at an auto upholstery shop and I completly re-did everything in the interior to a black and gold theme to match the exterior. I got bucket seats with regular headrests and installed them instead of the highbacks. I stayed with the factory design on the door panels, just used different material. I did the same with the seats as well, they were the stock look for a z-28, just used my material.
All of the plastics were completly stripped and repainted with vinyl and fabric paint with plastic adhesion promoter. Took a long time, but they look great. Carpet is new, headliner recovered, everything inside was re-done.
Drivetrain
The engine is a 3.1 V6 with a 5-speed transmission. Engine was bored .030 over and all new parts were installed. I recently purchased a 305 H.O. Camaro engine that I will re-build during the winter and replace the 3.1 with it, so it will move!
