NASCAR Golden Age Society

Monday Feb 18, 2008 01:17:00 PM

The 50th running of the Daytona 500 took place yesterday. Ryan Newman won.

Big deal.

You know, that's a pretty sad statement coming from me. I've always felt myself to be among the Ultimate of NASCAR fans. But, if you happened upon my earlier blog, "NASCAR's COT has made me an FOY", you'd know that the very sport I have loved for over 40 years has pushed me away. Still, I do hold on to the ideals that made me fall in love with the sport to begin with. That said, it is now time to do something about it.

Things are a little quiet here on Carster, so my bud Led Zeppelin and I have put together a private website dedicated to the Golden Age of NASCAR. As of this post it's only a day old... still in its infancy. But it will grow demonstrably over the coming weeks.

We thought it fitting to debut the site to coincide with the 50th running of the Daytona 500. We'd like to think that such an auspicious anniversary deserved recognition of the roots of the sport.

It's time to look back at a time when a NASCAR racer wasn't a faceless bubble that ony appears like its street counterpart thanks to a couple stick-on decals. To look back with a reverence that goes beyond the TV-fed flashback. Therefore, we offer old-school fans (and newbies that want to learn more):

The NASCAR Golden Age Society.

We invite you to drop by and check out the site at www.nascar-gas.com over the coming weeks. Hopefully, you'll want to come back for more and join us in paying tribute to NASCAR's "Golden Age"... when Stock Cars were stock, and the drivers seemed cast from the same metal as their cars.

That's my 2 cents. Your mileage may vary.

P.S. The NASCAR Golden Age Society is not is not affilliated with, nor endorsed by, the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR).
