The Concours d'Elegance is one of the most famous car shows in the world, originating in 1950 as an afterthought to accompany the newly minted Pebble Beach Road Race to be held on the winding 17-mile drive along
the scenic cliffs of Pebble Beach.
The stated goal of the sponsoring organization, the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America), was to spread the gospel of the American Sports Car as a piece of engineering art after what they considered its decline in
reputation due to the material and production shortfalls suffered during World War 2.
The first Pebble Beach Road Race and Concours d'Elegance drew 10,000 spectators and was won by a Jaguar XK120, and while the race itself is now no more, the tradition of the Concours d'Elegance survives today as
an annual display of the most beautiful and exotic cars in the world, arrayed across the golf course grounds of the Lodge at Pebble Beach in near gleaming Technicolor.
But instead of just ten thousand admirers, there are now tens of thousands of car enthusiasts who show up every year to celebrate the automobile in all its glory, from concept models to classics, while also
commemorating the heritage of the Monterey car week and Pebble Beach.
Carster was there this past weekend for our very first Concours d'Elegance experience, and we have a lot of photos of the event to share with you all.
